Staff Chromebook & Docking Station Guide

Basic Customization & Settings

Getting to Chromebook Settings:
Click the time icon in the bottom right, on the "shelf". Then click the gear icon.

Display & Dual Monitor Orientation:

In the settings menu, select "Device". "Built-in Display" is the Chromebook screen. The "Dell" option is the docking station. In this menu you can select whether you want the docking station to be "extended" (a second monitor) or "mirrored" (copies what is on the Chromebook's screen).
The displays can be moved around as pictured above. Depending on how you orient the screens here, it will change where you need to move your mouse to go between the two screens. Generally, it is best to have this match how the Chromebook and docking station are physically positioned on your desk.

Audio Settings:

Click the time icon in the bottom right, on the "shelf". Then click the '>' icon.
In this menu you can select which device you want to output audio. This menu will also let you control audio inputs from a microphone.
'Speaker (internal)' are the Chromebook's speakers. Any USB connected speakers will be listed as 'Speakers (USB2.0 Device)'.
Please Note: The 'Dell' option is the docking station, however, they do not have any speakers. Selecting this will cause audio issues until a different option is selected.

FAQs

1) Can I take the Chromebook home?

YES.
Please note that these are the property of the school district and should not be used for any use outside of educational use with Hopedale Public Schools, they are not a personal device. If a device is lost or stolen while outside of the district you may be held responsible for the cost of the full replacement.

2) How do I use it with my monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers/dock it?

You’ll have a single USB-C cable coming from your monitor/docking station. Plug that into either side of the Chromebook. By default the screen will be ‘Extended’ so you now have (2) monitors.

You can set it to ‘mirror’ so they show the same screen if desired (see above 'Display & Dual Monitor Orientation').
Once plugged in and connected to the docking station, the Chromebook can be closed and used solely on the monitor.

3) What is the charger for?

The charger is for use at home or when not in your classroom, the DOCKING STATION will charge your chromebook.

DO NOT plug in the charging cable while also using your docking station.
