Student BYOD is when a student brings a personal laptop device to school to use in class instead of the assigned 1:1 Chromebook device provided by the Tech Department.
- All students have access to, and have been provided with, a 1:1 Chromebook device.
The district is not required to honor student BYOD requests. The choice to allow a student to use a personal laptop in class is 100% up to the teacher.
- IEP and 504 plans are an exception, but the device must still be used appropriately.
- Deledao is the district's web filter and it ensures that inappropriate internet content is blocked on student devices and accounts.
- Deledao is account-based. This means that even on a personal device, students should still be visible in your Deledao Classroom Management Tool.
If a student in your class is not visible in your Deledao Classroom Management tool then it means that they are not signed into their HPS Google account on their personal device.
It is recommended that the Chrome browser be used as we are a Google-based district.
a) Add, and switch to, a student's HPS Google account profile in the browser.
b) Create a seperate device profile that is a student's HPS Google account.
c) Concerns with this option:
- All student have been provided a 1:1 Chromebook device
- "My Chromebook doesn't work" / "is broken" is not a reason to allow a personal device. Per the 1:1 device agreement, all students a required to report issues with their Chromebook asap. We provide a loaner to the student while their device is being looked at.
- This can be for the entire year or for just a specific activity.
