If after connecting your Chromebook to a docking station (with a USB connected printer) you see the following "needs configuration" error, then you will need to manually add the drivers for that printer.
You may also see the following error message when trying to select that printer as a print destination. Specifically, the printer shows as online (green dot), but shows an "Error setting up printer" message when selected.
If you are able to click the "needs configuration" notification, then you will go straight to the device's printer settings. If not, you can get there by the following method:1) Click the time/date in the lower right and then click the gear icon.
2) Once in settings, Click "Device" on the left and then "print" under "Printers and Scanners".
In print settings, click the carrot ("V") next to "Other available printers" and the printer that needs configuration will be listed.(For this example: Brother HL-L6210DW)
Click the "Save" button next to the printer.
Click the "Manufacturer" dropdown menu and select the appropriate option. If this differs from the example, Tech staff will specify.
Afterwards, click the "Model" dropdown and select the appropriate option. If this differs from the example, Tech staff will specify.
Note: The Model may not be exact. In this example the L6200DW driver covers the L6210DW printer.
